Beyond whether and when teachers engaged in discussions about SMK, our research
question asked about the ways in which teachers participated in these discussions. More
specifically, we asked how teachers used their MKT for this participation. Our findings
show that, in fact, teachers’ MKT mediated their participation in discussions about subject
matter; although Fatima, Faith, and Kathy all participated to discussions that addressed
SMK, their contributions, as summarized in Table 2, varied in ways that related to their
MKT.
