In this sense, it has been
demonstrated that the incidence of some infections is significantly
lower in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants that are fed human
milk than in those fed only infant formula (Hylander, Strobino, &
Dhanireddy, 1998). Therefore, when a woman cannot adequately
supply her child with her own milk, donor human milk may be
the most suitable alternative (Wight, 2001).
