The problem is that when flying you can only bring a certain amount of weight with you.
Oh dear. This is going to take some prioritisation and tough decision-making.
We are here to help you pack as well as you can:
Know Your Limits
There isn’t a universal weight limit for every airline. Check with your chosen airline to find out exactly how much you can bring. If you don’t have a scale you might want to borrow one from a friend so you can be accurate. (There’s no sense buying one at this point because let’s face it, you won’t be bringing it with you.)
Clothes
You probably can’t fit in all your clothing in your luggage (especially if you are a woman). That makes this the ideal time to really sort out your wardrobe. These questions will help you whittle down your choices:
· What are your favourite “can’t live without” items you wear often?
· What is the climate like in your destination?
· What will you need for your new occupation?
· What would be difficult or expensive to replace?
Important Documents
All your important documents need to be kept in one, safe place. Have backup notarised copies of everything. To be safe, have more than one copy of your ID, but don’t keep them in the same place. Space them out amongst your luggage sets. Also make a list of important numbers, addresses and names just in case something goes wrong.
Personal Hygiene Products
To save space, think about what you can leave behind and buy anew after you arrive. However, bear in mind that some of your favourite products might not be available in your new home. If you have allergies or are sensitive then you might have extra trouble finding replacements. Think about what you can leave behind, but also what would be more hassle than you are ready to deal with in the early days.
Chargers and Wires
Annoyingly, many countries have different electrical outlets to charge devices. Research what you need beforehand so you don’t waste space.
Personal Belongings
There’s a good chance you will have personal items and mementos you would like to bring. Be sparing about what you pack though. Do you really need your entire James Bond DVD collection? Hopefully you will have digital copies of all your photos. If there is anything else that you want to keep but don’t have space for, leave it behind with a friend or family to bring with you after your next trip home.
Once your bags are packed and ready to go everything is going to feel very real. You are leaving the country and a new life awaits.
Enjoy this time – it’s an adventure!
