Tomato is a moderate salt-tolerant crop that reduces yield by
50% under a saline (Subbarao and Johansen,1994).
In our experimental conditions, the modern cultivar Durinta
F1 was only affected by 25% (7.5 dSm−1). However, with
independence of the specific characteristics of the different
treatments applied, the haloconditioning of young seedlings by
immersion in low osmotic potentials for 1–8 days induced agronomic
salt tolerance in this cultivar, reflected in a more than
20% improvement in both shoot biomass and fruit yield under
the moderate salinity regime
