VHA intervention efforts
The VHA is a unique federal agency within the USA that has been exclusively devoted throughout its nearly 150 year history to the health and well-being of those who have served or continue to serve in the nation's armed forces. As the largest integrated healthcare system in the country, service connected veterans have access to medical and mental healthcare facilities, pharmaceutical needs, financial services, community living centers, homeless and rehabilitative housing, nursing home care, vocational rehabilitation, burial benefits, and other resources to meet the potential needs of veterans. Further, VHA is tasked with maintaining detailed treatment records for accurate and coordinated care as well as internal research activities designed to improve healthcare services. VHA facilities are, thus, specially equipped and staffed to address dual diagnoses and associated conditions within the context of a history of military service.
