Plants inhabiting arid or semiarid areas suffer from many abioticstresses such as water deficiency, limitation in essential macronu-trients and low organic matter, the latter due mainly to the plants’limited establishment and production. Native plant species estab-lishment are used as the most effective strategy in arid ecosystemsand in semiarid Mediterranean areas for reclaiming these degradedsoils (Bashan et al., 2012). Mycorrhizae may help plants to thrivein semiarid ecosystems (Azcón et al., 2013). This symbiosis iswidespread under natural stress conditions and it occurs in nearlyall environments.
