46. What’s a good price?
The price is right
A restaurant in southern England is scrapping prices twice a week and asking customers to pay whatever they consider to be a fair sum for their meal.
The menu, which will be on offer on Wednesday and Thursday nights, is intended to boost mid-week trade at the Penn Central restaurant near Sandbanks in Poole, Dorset.
Mick Callaghan, the restaurant’s owner, said: “I believe that the majority of people are if you give them good food, a good time and a nice place.”
He said the scheme was inspired by the band Radiohead, who released their latest album In Rainbows on the internet last year and invited fans to pay what they thought it was worth.
One customer described the idea as “ingenious”. “I couldn’t imagine anyone coming in and saying, ‘Oh, I’m only paying a pound’.”
