4.2 Reuse and recycling of waste from
food
Waste from food is a primary source of
organic waste material and also
generates substantial quantities of other
wastes, mostly in the form of
packaging related materials such as
plastics, glass, paper and metals. The
options for managing these wastes are,
in principle, similar to those for
managing solid waste in general as
outlined by the Waste Hierarchy, i.e.
reduce, reuse, recycle, recover and
sanitary disposal.
