Rice dwarf virus (RDV) is a member of the genus Phytoreovirus
in the family Reoviridae, with a wide range of hosts from fungi
to plants, insects, non-human vertebrates, and human (Boccardo
and Milne, 1984). RDV causes Rice dwarf disease, which shows
symptoms such as stunted growth, chlorotic specks on leaves, and
delayed and incomplete panicle exsertion (Hibino, 1996). RDV can
replicate not only in rice plants but also in its green rice leafhopper
vectors (Nephotettix cincticeps or Resilia dorsalis) (Suzuki et al.,
1994)
