All the papers reviewed presented an initial overview of what
was already known about this group of women with
carcinoma of the vulva and providing details to substantiate
how the focus of the study emerged. They all used more than
one method of data collection and included postal surveys,
interviews using validated assessment tools, gynaecological
examination and a review of the medical notes. Questionnaires
were used in by all, either in a structured or semistructured
interview setting or by using a postal survey. Both
