Bivariate correlations
Table 2 shows fairly high mean values for PSM, meaning that municipal respondents generally value the opportunity to further the common good in their day-to-day work. Comparatively, the PSM dimensions of ‘commitment to public interest/civic duty’ (3.99)and ‘compassion’ (3.76) have higher mean values than ‘attraction to policy-making’ (3.27) and ‘self-sacrifice’ (2.66). The table also indicates a fairly low mean value for resignation (2.17). Finally, respondents are more moderate when assessing their individual perception of organizational constraints (red tape). Turning now to the bivariate correlations, table 2 shows significant and negative associations among resignation and the ‘commitment to public interest/civic duty’ as well as the ‘attraction to policy-making’ dimensions of PSM, whereas resignation is not significantly related to the other two dimensions.
