The purpose of this project was to determine the benefits of cooperative learning
in the secondary math classroom. The students were given a pre and post attitudinal survey to see if cooperative learning changed their views of math. The surveys were given at the beginning of the project and at the end of the project. Two of the classes that participated in the project were instructed using cooperative learning strategies while the other class was instructed using the lecture based method. The researcher used cooperative learning strategies in the classroom at least two times a week. The researcher used the think - pair - share method, the numbered heads together method, the jigsaw method; the pairs check method, and the students teams achievement division method. The students were evaluated at the end of each chapter by taking the chapter test. The results of both surveys and the chapter tests suggest that the students did benefit from the implementation of cooperative learning.
