Driver: Erawan bomb suspect spoke Thai with foreign accent
A taxi driver who may have driven the Erawan shrine bomber away from the scene of last week's deadly explosion told police Tuesday that the suspect spoke Thai with a foreign accent.
The driver, who spoke to reporters before being interviewed by police, said he picked a foreign-looking man and drove him from Rama IV Road near Sala Daeng to a spot near Hua Lamphong station.
The description given matches a police warrant circulated last week.
"He spoke Thai but spoke with a foreign accent. I don't think he was Thai. He was the same man as in the clip," said the driver, who asked that his identity be withheld over fears for his safety.
The driver met investigators at the Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Police Forensic Science Office at the Royal Thai Police head office on Tuesday.
He said he was not aware that police were looking for him until receiving a phone call from his sister.
Forensic police tried to find clues in his car on Tuesday as deputy national police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda held a meeting with all investigators at the MPB to get an update on the investigation.
