The parental education program might have contributed to the EFS-estimate. This program aims to make the nature of the disease and necessity of treatment comprehensible for all families, including families with low educational backgrounds. This parental educational program hereby alleviated the previously described discriminatory behavior exhibited by the medical staff towards families with different socio-economic backgrounds [3, 14]. However, the program was presented only once, at the beginning of treatment. Families with a high educational background might have better understood the messages of this parental education program. Families with a low educational background might need more than one meeting to understand its messages. Some studies found that repeated education-based on cognitive abilities of patients or parents-improved the knowledge and treatment outcome
