Ignorance, cruelty, racism and bigotry in Australia

Australia is not the land of the fair go, it is a nation where cruelty, ignorance, discrimination and racism are common,
writes Natalie Cromb.
There has been a lot said recently about racism towards Indigenous Australians. I would like to discuss the problem.
Not an "incident", but the pervasive problem of racism and prejudice in Australia.
Racism is larger than one moment, it is systemic.
The racism that occurs against Indigenous people in Australia, is very bad. It is offensive, because the system seeks to undermine the cultural sovereignty of Indigenous people. This is based on the denial of history.
For example, the annual celebration of Australia Day is on the same day as when the original inhabitants were attacked and decimated.
Nevertheless, many Aussies say that Indigenous people need to just "get over it", right? Talk about rubbing salt into an open wound.
Racism is the cause of governmental policies that harm Indigenous Australia.
It is the cause of increased Indigenous arrests and deaths in custody.
It is the cause of one-sided media that only shows Indigenous people as lazy and drunks.
It is the cause of high suicide rates for Indigenous Australia.
The racism I have experienced throughout my life has been odd;
I have had "friends" introduce me as "Abo" or belittle other Aboriginal people.
I have had people tell me I was "too sensitive" when I objected to their racism.
More insulting is when I was told I was "hot, for an Aboriginal."
When explaining my culture to a new person, they often do not believe me.
I have had people stare at me, really stare and slant their head. And then say: “I can see it now, it’s your nose.”
These are just a few of the many moments all Indigenous Australians experience of racism. This all points to the truth: that racism is ever-present and the most racist people are the ones who deny it the loudest.
If Australia were truly the land of the fair go, we would not be allowing tax cuts for the wealthiest people.
Australia is not the land of the fair go, it is a nation where humanity is second to money.
It is a place where racism is everywhere and without any shame from the people.
