Abstract
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) refers to a variety of
inflammatory conditions involving the upper genital tract in females.
This article aims to increase knowledge of the management of mild
to moderate PID by nurse prescribers working in sexual health. An
overview of how to identify PID and the types of bacteria that can
cause it is provided. The article provides an understanding of the
process required to make a diagnosis of PID, and highlights other
conditions that may cause similar symptoms. The pharmacological
options in treating non-complex mild to moderate presentations of
PID are covered.
