2.5. Microstructure
Microstructures of the pure components, the eutectics and the monotectic were recorded [12] by placing a drop of molten alloy on a hot glass slide where the temperature gradient was maintained.
A cover slip was glided over the melt and the nucleation was facilitated at one end using a seed crystal. The melt was allowed to solidify unidirectionally.
The microstructure thus developed was observed under an optical microscope (Leitz Labourlux D) to view the different regions of structure.
The interesting regions were photographed with suitable magnification.
