This paper concludes this volume's theme of crime in the Netherlands. In what follows, we present an overview of the development and present state of crime in the Netherlands. We also briefly comment on the spatial patterns revealed by the four maps. The paper relies heavily on the statistics and backgrounds brought together in a new annual report on crime and justice co-produced by the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and the Scientific Research and Documentation Centre of the Ministry of Justice (WODC) (CBS & WODC 1999).
