The focus of this course will lie on modeling the skin, what methods and techniques are useful and what software is appropriate for getting the job done fast, accurate and efficient. We choose to use T-splines instead of for instance Autodesk Maya or Blender as this plugin has the smoothest learning curve. Before we start using the plugin we’ll explain briefly what subD geometries are and why you should care when you decide to design something more organic. When we’ve modeled the exterior skin using T-splines we’ll use Grasshopper to generate the interior skin. Instead of simply offsetting the exterior with a fixed amount, we’re going to embed a little bit of structural intelligence by offsetting the skin more where it structurally makes more sense. We’re also going to use Grasshopper to generate a schematic space frame structure and to generate a schematic panelization of the facade.
