3.2 Implementation of data transfer
The network technology applied to the NVS
data transfer enables great capacity, more
flexibility, greater reliability and quicker service in
the information exchange. The TCP/IP Network[5]
is the key with Client/Server structure used in the
implementation.
TCP/IP is divided into four layers: network
interface layer, network layer, transport layer,
and application layer. Our work is mainly related
to the application layer.
The network interface layer requires an
appropriate LAN product according to the system
requirement. Because image data will be
transported between hosts, the system needs a
wide network bandwidth and real-time response
speed. In addition, the connections between
network equipment should be easily assembled and
disassembled. Analysis of presently available LAN
technologies led to the selection of IEEE 802. 3 10
BASET Ethernet to establish the NVS LAN. If
more than 10 machines are needed, Exchange
Ethernet may be used to expand the limited
bandwidth
