In the southern region, Thailand, there are six main types of small holding rubber-based farming systems, as classified by Somboonsuk & Shivakoti (2000), based on their study of three communities: Khao Phra, Phijit and Klong Phea in Songklha Province, Thailand. Their classification was based on the criteria of the individual farmûs agricultural production activity, the socio-economic structure of local rubber small holders and agro-ecozone of rubber cultivation as suggested by Trebuil et.al in 1993and Conway in 1985. They described the characteristics of the main small holding rubber- based farming systems as following (summarized also in Table 1)
