Out of the eight chemical properties used as
parameters for rice cultivation: Soil PH,
Organic Carbon, available phosphorus, total
nitrogen, calcium, Magnesium, Potassium
and cation Exchange capacity only five
properties meet the standard land quality
requirement for rice cultivation after
comparison, which are: Organic Carbon,
Total Nitrogen, Calcium, Soil PH, Cation
Exchange Capacity (CEC).
• Using the FAO land suitability evaluation
orders and classes of Dobi for rice
cultivation, the criteria for land suitability
measures the Dobi soil as moderately
suitable as it satisfies five out of the eight
chemical properties used as parameters,
when compared to the standard land quality
requirement for rice cultivation. More so, as
limitation in the chemical properties of Dobi
can be ameliorated, through management
strategies.
