This study sought to assess the impacts of landuse activities on
the water quality of the Upper Manyame River which drains the
rural and urbanised part of the catchment up to flow gauging
station C21 by perfoming a supervised digital image classification
approach with available Landsat TM and ETM images of 1984,
1995, 2003 and 2011 whose results were linked to historical water
quality parameters. The results of digital image classification
showed that forest, grassland and bareland area decreased by
24%, 22.6% and 31.7% respectively. This was mainly due to expansion
or increase of settlement and agricultural activities by 41.6%
and 24.4% respectively.
