The development of leadership is a process which involves individual’s
effectiveness from a personal victory to public victory as described by Covey (2004).
Covey (2004) introduces seven leadership habits towards a public victory namely;
be proactive; begin with the end in mind; put first things first; think win-win; first to
understand then to be understood; synergize; and, sharpen the saw. Robichaud and
Anantatmula (2011) too propose similar steps in their greener project management
approach for a building project. In that, they discuss five steps, namely, begin with the
end in mind; integrate the project team; design with the whole team; use rewards in
contracts; and, finally, provide on-going feedback. Among the ten steps of Mendler et al.
(2006), the importance of team building is highlighted as the most essential step by
Yellamraju (2011). These steps, in particular, the Covey’s (2004) paradigm of public
victory offers a path for a successful team leadership role for a green building project.
