Bishop (1982) described
an agrosilvopastoral system from Ecuador, in
which 8-year-old fallow of Inga edulis tree supported
productivity of food crops for 2 years. Padwick (1983)
and Drechsel et al. (1996) reported that residual benefit
of both natural fallow and short-term improved
fallows on crop yields occasionally lasts for three
post fallow crops, but is usually negligible after two
crops.
