Patients
Out of the 933 charts reviewed for adult patients with febrile
neutropenia, 101 patients (10.8%) had a surgical consultation
to rule out a perianal cause for the sepsis. Of those
patients 14 were bone marrow transplantation cases. The
characteristics of those patients and their conditions are presented in Table 1. There were 57 males (56.4%) and
44 females (43.6%) with a median age of 38 years (range
18e73 years). The conditions those patients had were
mainly hematological malignancies (83.2%), like leukemia
and lymphoma, but included other tumors, like sarcomas
and other solid tumors. All patients had an ANC of less
