User reviews are a way of establishing trust in an application’s safety and quality, even though individual user reviews
themselves are not always trustworthy. More than 80% of participants reported that user reviews “Always” or “Sometimes” influence their installation decisions, regardless of platform. Due to the inclusion of user reviews in official mobile marketplaces, we hypothesized that user reviews would be more important in mobile application decisions than laptop installation decisions. However, our results do not support this hypothesis.
