When a dependent clause qualifies an
adjective or an adverb and thereby adds degree to
that adjective or adverb, that clause is an adverbial
clause of degree. Sometimes an adverbial clause
of degree may begin a sentence; sometimes it may
conclude a sentence. The most common
subordinators in adverbial clauses of degree are
“as…as” and “than,” but other subordinators also
may appear in adverbial clauses of degree.
