The total cost of bIg ben, the most famous clock in england, was just over four thousand pounds. The dials and hand of the clock came to another five thousand pounds , and the bells six thousand more. It seems rather curious that the dials and other accessories should have cost so much more than the actual works of the clock itself , but the dials are peneled with a very expensive kind if glass, and the four minute hands, one of each face of the clock, created a difficult problem. As first designed and made by an architect named berry, the for of them together weighted a ton and a quarter, which made the clock shake when it ran. Of course that soon stopped the clock and the minute hands had to come off . Another architect , the orginal designer of the clock itself, had the present minute hands made to his own design.
