the bladder is loosely anchored within the pelvis, fixed only by its base and trigone to the cervix–vagina posteriorly in women. The pelvic plexus of nerve supply transverses from the posterior portion of the cardinal ligaments to reach the bladder, ureters and urethra. This segment when damaged leads to urinary dysfunction because normal function requires an intact afferent and efferent innervations, an unobstructed outlet and a functional detrusor unit. During the storage phase, the detrusor muscles must remain stable with normal sensation, must remain compliant at an adequate bladder capacity, and during the voiding stage, the detrusor must maintain an adequate and coordinated contraction with concomitant urethral relaxation and a functional urethral closure mechanism.
