Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, has announced a second service to Thailand starting on Dec 15, from Astana to Bangkok.
The airline will offer twice-a-week flights between the two capitals on Mondays and Thursdays using Boeing 767-300ER wide-body jets with 30 seats in business class and 193 in economy, airline executives said.
The Astana-Bangkok route will be in addition to the existing daily service between Almaty and Bangkok, also using the same type of aircraft.
The new route is part of Air Astana's expanded winter schedule that sees the airline operating in more than 40 cities in 18 countries in Asia and Europe.
Meanwhile, on Oct 26 Etihad Airways, national airline of the UAE, launched daily non-stop flights between Abu Dhabi and Phuket, its second destination in Thailand.
"The new Phuket route is a natural expansion of our Thai network and a strong addition to our portfolio of leisure destinations such as the Seychelles, Maldives and Sri Lanka," chief executive James Hogan said.
Phuket is one of 10 new routes launched or to be launched by Etihad this year.
These include Medina in February, Jaipur in April, Los Angeles and Zurich in June, and Yerevan, Rome and Perth in July. They will be followed by San Francisco on Nov 18 and Dallas on Dec 3.
Phuket is also the airline's seventh destination in Southeast Asia alongside Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Singapore.
Etihad has appointed Dimitrios Karagkioules as its new general manager for Thailand. He has more
than 20 years of airline experience including as the airline's general manager for Greece.
