Instructional handouts are designed for use by study subjects to increase
their adherence to the protocol.
Examples of these handouts include detailed
summaries of activities (e.g., peak flow monitoring and medication dosing) to
be completed at specific times during each day of the study, instructions for using
and cleaning study inhalers, and information related to the identification
and treatment of asthma attacks.
In addition, each subject is given a study ID
card that identifies him or her as a participant in an ACRN trial and outlines
rescue intervention procedures to be used during an emergency.
Study handouts
are organized and placed in an ACRN folder for distribution to each subject
at his or her first clinic visit.
