Fat depth measured at a point over the Longissimus thoracis where the muscle was deepest (fat depth), transverse area of the Longissimus thoracis (eye muscle area; EMA), the intramuscular fat percent of the Longissimus thoracis (IMF) and the fat depth at the P8 site on the rump (P8 fat depth) were measured by ultrasound when the steers were 12, 18 and 24 months of age.
