Peter Lindbergh is particularly known for his black-and-white photographs which is not surprising as Fritz Lang (with Metropolis) and Serguei Eisenstein (with Battleship Potemkin) had a great influence on his work. As far as his use of light and contrasts is concerned, Lindbergh was inspired by the German expressionist films of the 1920s. This influence is, for instance, visible on his photos of the Russian model Natalia Vodianova.
His way of telling a story with pictures reflects Lindbergh’s interest in cinema. Objects related to film making such as cameras, director chairs etc. can also be found on his photos.
