Conclusions
From the study, water quality varies from one location to the other. Assessment of groundwater quality made in
the 30 locations in the study area revealed that there were considerable deviations from set standards. This shows
clearly that many of the samples do not satisfy drinking water standards set by the WHO and SON. The results
show the level of deterioration of groundwater in different parts of the city. Many people in Lagos environment
drink groundwater without treatment with the belief that it is safe. There is the need for public enlightenment on
this perceived notion. Government agencies in charge of water resources should embark on regular water quality
monitoring with a focus on groundwater. Also, this study calls for further research on underground water quality
in the whole of Lagos state as it is pertinent to the health of the people. Since groundwater has a major role to play
in water supply schemes, plans for its protection need to be put in place.
