Establishing standards is an integral part ofestablishing the correct identity and quality
of a crude drug. Before any drug can beincluded in the pharmacopoeia, thesestandards must be established. The majorityof the information on the identity, purity andquality of the plant material can be obtainedfrom its macroscopy, microscopy and physio– chemical parameters. As there is no recordon pharmacognostical work on leaves ofIxora coccinea Linn, The present work is
undertaken to produce somepharmacognostical standards. The abovestudies provide information in respect oftheir identification, chemical constituents &physicochemical characters which may be
useful for pharmacognostical study andstandardization of herbal drugs of folkmedicinal practice of present era andenrichment of ayurvedic pharmacopoeia. Itwill also determine therapeutic diagnostictools for the scientists who are keen andsincere to evaluate the herbal medicine of
indigenous resources.
