Partnering with governments on technology development
BP is a charter partner and active participant in the US EPA Natural Gas STAR Program. This is a flexible, voluntary partnership that encourages oil and natural gas companies to adopt cost-effective technologies and practices that improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas and clean energy source
BP is a founding partner in the World Bank’s Global Gas Flaring Reduction partnership, we fully participate in the various programs under this partnership, we directly support the partnership through both funding and assistance with work items, and we continue to work towards reduced flaring and venting from our world-wide exploration and production operations. This is a voluntary activity and is aimed at reducing Scope 1 emissions. This partnership was launched in 2002, is on-going and expected to continue.
