It is important to emphasise again that despite the good agreemaent on common bipolar prodromes between studies, investigators often commented on the idiosyncratic patterns of prodromes among patients. One study reported that bipolar patients had considerable inter-individual variability but very little intra-individual variability of prodromes (molnar et al, 1998). Another study commented on the idiosyncratic “relapse signatures” of individual patients (Smith & tarrier, 1992). Hence, there is a consensus that each patient’s pattern or combination of signs and symptoms may be unique.
