In conclusion, these results demonstrate that a novel combination of chia seed and pomegranate fruit extracts cause a synergistic reduction of melanin production in Melan-a cells.
The inhibitory effect of chia seed extract may be due to the presence of a complex of PUFAs, since the predominant fatty
acids, linoleic and α-linolenic, did not inhibit melanin production in Melan-a melanocytes when tested separately.
Based on these results, an effective melanin reduction strategy should involve a combination of ingredients targeting multiple pathways of melanin synthesis.
