Since loss of walking ability is a major problem
after stroke,1,2 recovery of walking is a priority
goal for most patients.3,4 Friedman showed that
the sooner the individual with a history of stroke
attained the ability to ambulate, the more likely it
was that independent walking would be re-established.2
Gait outcome is a significant factor that
influences a patient’s chance of returning to their
premorbid environments.2 Rehabilitation can be an
effective treatment following stroke,5 however
some patients may be dissatisfied with the level
of function they achieve.1,6
