Home visits were made during pregnancy and early post-partum by peer counselors recruited from the same community (similar to what we did in our study) and trained by a special league meant for this purpose. At 3 months post- partum, exclusive breastfeeding had improved significantly as compared to the control group. Duration of breastfeeding was significantly (p = 0.02) longer in intervention groups than in controls [19]. In comparison to this study, the counselling sessions in our study were mainly targeted at lactating mothers with home visits by MSG members at birth, followed by 9 visits thereafter in first 6 months and 9 visits up to 2 years of age
