Remy and Woyach (1982) considered community-based approach to global studies as imagined community. It can be relationship between local individuals, groups and organizations, and their counterparts outside the United States as the basis for learning about, teaching about, and participating in. Under the global system, it is essential to think beyond the nation-state. The authors believed that this approach could make international affairs and problems appear more manageable, make channels of participation in world affairs appear more accessible, and make things international appear to be more applicable to daily life. They also recommended that community could be used as resources and information about community connected with the world could be used as the substance of instruction to apply for elementary and secondary schools
