the 3 months of shelf-life expected. Basing on these considerations,
in the perspective of a possible replacement of the DFO with the
1,2-IND, the only formulation recommended among those analyzed
is S3, that proved to be competitive with DFO both in the
qualitative and in the quantitative phase of this study. The use of
the IND–Zn rather than the DFO would have a double advantage: a
significant cost saving, since the 1,2-IND is less expensive
compared to the DFO and fewer risks during the use, since S3
unlike DFO does not include as carrier solvent the HFE-71DE, that
contain 1,2-dichloroethylene which makes the solution of the
reagent toxic and also flammable.
One of the future development of this work would be to
improve the quantitative part of the analysis, treated here in a
preliminary manner, primarily by increasing the number of
subjects involved in the experiment and perhaps using measurement
techniques other than those here applied.
Moreover, a future perspective could be to try other formulations
of IND–Zn, but also to explore different working conditions by
changing other parameters such as humidity, temperature or time.
