• Traditionally, Confucian teachings were seen as upholding
social harmony, ancestral tradition, reverence for teachers,
and respect for the state.
• We will study these teachings in more detail during this
term.
• So worshiping Confucius was part of
the general aim of maintaining the relationship between
the human and supernatural worlds.
• If people did not maintain this connection, then society
might lose the blessings of the gods and ancestors and fall
into chaos.
