The elevated risk of infection associated with therapeutic hypothermia may result from slowed inflammatory processes and impaired wound healing. Patients should be monitored for fever and physiologic changes consistent with sepsis, such as tachycardia, hypotension, and elevated lactate or white blood cell levels.
