The study also categorizes the way the sample organizations communicated CSR. While there were many organizational websites that had consistent themes and similar language, the study revealed that many still had significantly different approaches to disclosing CSR. While not all of the organizations specified that they were discussing ‘corporate social responsibility,’‘corporate citizenship,’ or ‘sustainability,’ all identified at least one topic where they ‘cultivate a broad view of their own self-interest while searching for ways to align self-interest with the larger good’ (Smith, 1994, p. 106).
