The Tuning-Fork Technique. A tuning fork or similar vibrating object is extremely useful, in addition to a small aquarium net, for capturing all kinds of wet-building spiders. If the tuning fork is twanged and then placed against the web, spider will be lured to the point of the vibration, just as to a vibrating fly. Many spiders are extremely quick to detect that the tuning fork is not a fly and will race right back to their hiding place, Nevertheless, if the aquarium net is held in readiness before the tuning fork touches the web the spider may be captured before it again reaches the safety of a crack or burrow.
