An immediate effect of glucomannan was shown by comparing the OGTT data from first protocol and preintervention
values from second protocol (Fig. 1).
Preload with glucomannan decreased ghrelin concentrations to the lowest percentage at 2 h, though with no statistical
difference when compared with white rice preload or glucose load alone.
Interestingly, when subjects were separated into tertiles by HOMA-IR values, prandial ghrelin reduction in the glucomannan-primed of the middle tertile was greater than in the placebo-primed ( p = .03).
Leptin significantly decreased with nadir at 2 h after preload with glucomannan but not with placebo or in an unprimed
condition.
