Of the three isolates tested, ac9 and 6ca11 produced relatively higher levels of amylase, cellulase and xylanase, compared to ac19 (Fig. 1A and B). Ac9 and 6ca11 have comparable cellulase and xylanase activities at both incubation temperatures; while amylase activity was significantly higher in ac9 with 477.734 mg min À 1 ml À 1 against 345.970 mg min À 1 ml À 1 by 6ca11 at 4072 1C (Fig. 1A). Hydrolytic activities of ac19 were inferior to both ac9 and 6ca11 at both temperatures.
