French photographer Charles Maze will showcase his work during “Anamorphoses”, the inaugural exhibition of Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit’s S Gallery, from tomorrow until April 5. The exhibition is a contemporary interpretation of “anamorphoses”, a distorted projection or drawing that appears normal only when viewed from a particular point or with a suitable mirror or lens. It was first developed in the 16th century and used by da Vinci, Holbein and Durer. Maze has developed a computer-supported tool that can be applied to photography to create anamorphoses. In both black and white and vivid colour, he presents works portraying futuristic landscapes of a megalopolis, the silent universe of Mother Nature and distant unidentifiable crowds. His compositions share similarities with works of impressionism and American abstract expressionism. Charles first introduced his anamorphoses at his “Sorcieres (Witches)” exhibition, in Paris in 2013. - S Gallery opens daily, from 10am to 10pm. - Call 02-126-9999.
